Obtaining Futon Cotton Beds
Who would have thought that the time would come when families had to put their homes up for sale or have them repossessed for failing to pay off their mortgage. Some families may be lucky enough to be able to buy a new house, albeit a much smaller one than the one they had. This is one economic phenomenon where no country is spared, even those that are considered First World Countries like the USA.
Families in these bedroom-sized homes are adapting to their new environment and are choosing more affordable and practical pieces of furniture. Futons have become a household word when it comes to furniture purchases.
A futon is a flat mattress that is laid on the floor and serves as part of the set of the traditional bedding of the Japanese. The stuffing of the mattress may be cotton, wool or synthetic batting.
It’s in the Western world where the Japanese mattress took a different form and function as more and more westerners warmed up to the futon.
What the westerners did to the futon was make it into a couch or a sofa. It has not lost its original function as a bed but it is now laid on a wooden or a metal frame which could be folded up in the middle to serve as a sofa, couch or lounger. The futon in Japan only shows itself at night time and is rolled over and kept in the closet at daytime. There’s hardly any corner in a western home where you won’t find a futon; it serves as a bed at night time and as a sofa at daytime.
The futon’s stuffing of cotton, wool and synthetic batting have given way to foam which is a sturdier material for a chair. Futons are no longer cleaned by airing and beating, like they do in Japan, since the mattress is thicker and no different from a real mattress. In whatever manner it is cleaned, a futon is kept free from germs and bacteria build-up. The dual purpose that futons serve make them most popular in homes with little living space.
In the West and other countries, the futon frame is inseparable from the mattress. The mattress also stays on the frame like any other bed. It’s all up to the consumer if he or she prefers a springless mattress over a spring-filled one; the only difference is, now, mattresses are thicker than they used to be. A cotton-stuffed mattress is considered good for one’s health which makes it the easy choice of health-conscious consumers as against mattresses filled with spring or other kinds of filling.
You won’t run of things to use futons for; you can use them for sleeping, for sitting or lounging, and you can use them in bedrooms, living rooms and guest rooms.
